Important changes in relation to the Chancery 1 List (Mondays)

Please note that the procedure in relation to lodging books in the List Room for matters in the Monday Chancery 1 List has changed, as set out below.

Going forward, there is no requirement to lodge Books in advance in the List Room. Books are now required to be physically brought to the Court on the day and need to be handed into the Registrar when the matter is called.

These changes only apply to the Chancery 1 List and only for matters listed on a Monday, books for hearings listed Tuesday to Friday must still be lodged by 1pm the Thursday before the hearing.

All other lists are still running with their existing timelines for lodging books, please see the below table for timelines.

Please note Pearts will only be in a position to hand books into the Court for matters that we have been instructed to attend on, attendance must to be arranged in advance through our offices at agency@pearts.ie or 018722311.

RIP Brave Brian

The last day of the 2024 Michaelmas court term was also sadly the day that former member of the Pearts team, Brian Clifford aged 41, lost his long, brave battle with cancer. Husband to Caroline Wade, the eldest daughter of our Principal Valerie Peart and Gerard Wade and brother-in-law of Niamh, John and Jennifer Wade, (wife of our Office manager James Clarke), Brian will be significantly missed by all who knew and loved him. Leaving behind three small children, Daniel (11), Lucie (9) and Sam (3), it is hard to put into words how heartbreaking the reality of this new norm is for them.

Having courageously and quietly confronted his illness for the past 14 years, since the age of 28, with his final few months spent in the incredible care of Or Lady’s Hospice Harold’s Cross, we can only but commend him for always trying to live life to the best of his ability. As a previous Pearts staff member, who joined us while undergoing his PHD in psychology before he went on sick leave, his dry wit, kind heart and love for ‘good’ coffee will always be remembered. He is now at peace.

VP Becomes JVP

50 years working in Pearts and recently appointed as Junior Vice President of the Law Society of Ireland, 2024 is certainly a landmark year for our Principal, Valerie Peart.

While never one to hog the limelight, as Valerie just gets on with it, we feel it’s only appropriate to congratulate her on this incredible achievement.

From her college days working with her Father, Denis, to assisting the business during her brother, Michael’s time at the helm, (while also running her busy private practice and rearing four children), to her full time takeover in 2002 with her husband Gerard Wade, Valerie has certainly not been idle.

The decision to run for election to the Law Society Council in 2009, as she says herself, “was possibly one of the best decisions of my professional life.

We asked Valerie how she felt about her latest appointment:

I am totally honoured!

I look forward to working with our President, Eamonn Harrington and Senior Vice President, Rosemarie Loftus and the amazing team at The Law Society, under the stewardship of Mark Garrett, the Director General.

As Junior Vice President, I am committed to serving the Society in any way I can and I look forward to a productive and busy year.”
